GDGoC Korea X Japan The Bridge Hackathon 2026🎉

2026 The Bridge Hackathon

From May 16 to 17, 2026, students from Korea and Japan came together for the 2nd GDGoC The Bridge Hackathon. Just like the name suggests, the event was not only about building software. It was about building a bridge between students, languages, cultures, and ways of thinking.

Teams were intentionally mixed between Korean and Japanese students, and English was used as the common language throughout the hackathon. Over one intense overnight sprint, teams brainstormed, built MVPs, prepared demos, and presented in English, using Google technologies such as Firebase, Google Cloud, and the Gemini API.

Projects

• Darlingo: An AI companion language-learning app for Korean and Japanese, using Gemini Live API for real-time voice conversation and story-based practice.
• Just4UI: A browser assistance tool for elderly users and accessibility needs, simplifying web UIs and providing step-by-step task guidance.
• BridgeIT: A Korea-Japan IT career platform prototype that analyzes hiring signals and helps developers improve their profiles.
• Shisen: A bilingual news comparison platform that helps users see Korea-Japan issues from multiple media perspectives.
• Tabeyo: An AI-powered menu scanning app for travelers, with menu analysis, allergy risk detection, recommendations, and order-ready text.
• WasureMwono: An AI lost-and-found matching system that connects lost item reports with found item reports using Gemini, Firebase, and voice input.
• JanJan: A smart etiquette guide for Korean and Japanese life events, helping users with cultural advice and gift-money records.
• Trendie Foodie: A trend-based food discovery platform connecting tourists with local businesses through trend signal collection and scoring.
• LDM: An AI leadership simulation tool that evaluates communication and leadership signals through interactive scenarios.
• Team 10 - Backend / Frontend: A location-based wellness meetup service with maps, friends, gatherings, real-time chat, and Gemini-powered AI Coach recommendations.
• SOLIS: An emotional journaling companion that analyzes feelings, suggests reflections, recommends songs, and bridges users to therapist support.
• Early Health Risk Detection: A real-time health risk detection system for seniors and caregivers, using computer vision to detect falls, posture risks, and emergency signals.
• mental-guard: An AI-assisted safety platform for civil complaint calls, with STT, risk detection, live captions, and post-call summaries.
• Do - Find Your Way: An AI-assisted loneliness recovery platform designed to help users gradually move from isolation back toward real-world human connection.

The Grand Prize went to Just4UI. Darlingo and Early Health Risk Detection received Excellence Awards, Shisen and WasureMwono received Runner-up Awards, and Darlingo also received the Popularity Award.

Honestly, the best part of the hackathon was not only the final demos. It was watching people who had just met each other communicate across languages, explain ideas with whatever words they had, debug together late into the night, and still manage to build something meaningful by the end. That is what made The Bridge feel like more than just a name.

2026년 5월 16일부터 17일까지, 한국과 일본의 학생들이 함께 모여 제2회 GDGoC The Bridge Hackathon을 진행했습니다. 이번 해커톤은 단순히 서비스를 만드는 행사를 넘어, 서로 다른 언어와 문화권의 학생들이 하나의 팀으로 협업하며 실제 문제를 정의하고 MVP를 완성해보는 경험이었습니다.

참가자들은 한국과 일본의 여러 대학에서 모였고, 팀은 한일 혼합으로 구성되었습니다. 공식 언어는 영어였으며, 개발은 Firebase, Google Cloud, Gemini API 등 Google 기술 스택을 중심으로 진행되었습니다. 짧은 시간 안에 아이디어 회의, 개발, 발표 준비, 영어 발표와 Q&A까지 모두 해내야 했기 때문에 쉽지 않은 일정이었지만, 그만큼 각 팀의 집중력과 몰입도가 높았던 시간이었습니다.

이번 해커톤에서는 정말 다양한 프로젝트가 있었습니다.

• Darlingo: Gemini Live API 기반의 한일 언어 학습 앱이었습니다. AI companion과 실시간 음성 대화 또는 비주얼 노벨형 스토리를 통해 한국어와 일본어를 연습할 수 있도록 구현했습니다.
• Just4UI: 고령자와 접근성 취약 사용자를 위한 브라우저 보조 도구였습니다. 웹페이지를 더 읽기 쉬운 UI로 재구성하거나, 사용자가 해야 할 작업을 단계별로 안내하는 기능을 만들었습니다.
• BridgeIT: 한일 IT 커리어 플랫폼 프로토타입이었습니다. Gemini를 활용해 채용 신호를 분석하고, 개발자의 프로필을 직무 기준과 비교해 개선 방향을 제안했습니다.
• Shisen: 한국과 일본의 주요 언론 기사를 함께 보여주는 뉴스 비교 플랫폼이었습니다. 하나의 이슈를 여러 시선에서 바라볼 수 있도록 구성했습니다.
• Tabeyo: 여행자를 위한 AI 메뉴 스캐닝 앱이었습니다. 종이 메뉴를 촬영하면 메뉴 분석, 알레르기 위험 탐지, 추천, 주문 문구 생성까지 도와주는 서비스였습니다.
• WasureMwono: 분실물과 습득물을 AI로 매칭하는 lost & found 시스템이었습니다. VAPI, Firebase, Gemini를 활용해 설명 기반 매칭과 이메일 알림을 구현했습니다.
• JanJan: 한국과 일본의 경조사 에티켓과 축의금/부의금 고민을 도와주는 AI 가이드였습니다. 문화권별 조언과 기록 관리 기능이 인상적이었습니다.
• Trendie Foodie: 여행자와 로컬 비즈니스를 연결하는 트렌드 기반 음식 탐색 플랫폼이었습니다. 트렌드 신호를 수집하고 점수화해 관광객이 현지에서 지금 인기 있는 경험을 찾을 수 있도록 했습니다.
• LDM: 리더십과 커뮤니케이션 역량을 시뮬레이션으로 평가하는 AI 도구였습니다. 대화 신호를 바탕으로 리더십 피드백을 생성했습니다.
• Team 10 - Backend / Frontend: 위치 기반 웰니스 및 운동 메이트 매칭 서비스였습니다. 지도, 모임, 친구, 실시간 채팅, Gemini 기반 AI Coach 추천 기능을 연결했습니다.
• SOLIS: 감정 일기 기반 mental health companion이었습니다. 감정 분석, 음악 추천, 상담사 매칭까지 이어지는 흐름을 만들었습니다.
• Early Health Risk Detection: 독거노인과 보호자를 위한 실시간 건강 위험 감지 시스템이었습니다. 자세, 낙상, 안면 및 신체 신호를 분석해 위험 이벤트를 기록하고 보호자와 연결했습니다.
• mental-guard: 민원 상담 전화를 위한 AI 안전 플랫폼이었습니다. STT, 위험 신호 분석, 실시간 자막, 상담 후 요약 기능을 제공했습니다.
• Do - Find Your Way: 외로움과 사회적 고립을 겪는 사람들을 위한 AI 기반 회복 플랫폼이었습니다. AI가 인간관계를 대체하는 것이 아니라, 사용자가 다시 사람과 연결될 수 있도록 돕는 방향으로 설계했습니다.

수상은 대상 Just4UI, 최우수상 Darlingo와 Early Health Risk Detection, 우수상 Shisen과 WasureMwono, 인기상 Darlingo가 받았습니다. 하지만 결과와 별개로, 모든 팀이 제한된 시간 안에서 서로의 언어와 방식에 적응하며 끝까지 결과물을 만들어냈다는 점이 가장 큰 성과였다고 생각했습니다.

이번 해커톤을 통해 기술은 결국 사람을 연결하는 방식이어야 한다는 것을 다시 느꼈습니다. 프로젝트 하나하나도 의미 있었지만, 그보다 더 인상 깊었던 것은 처음 만난 사람들이 영어로 토론하고, 막히면 손짓까지 섞어가며 설명하고, 밤새 같은 목표를 향해 움직였던 장면들이었습니다. 그런 점에서 The Bridge라는 이름이 정말 잘 어울리는 행사였습니다.
